MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara Review

Over the past year or so I've seen many beauty gurus/vloggers (Pixiwoo sisters and Jaclyn Hill, I'm looking at you) reach for the MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara, especially for their lower lashes. They all raved about how great it was  at preventing smudging on the lower lashline and, as someone with long lower lashes who's often a victim of smudging, I decided to give it a try!

MAC describes their Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara as a lightweight curling and lifting mascara with an intense black pigment. They say it has a petite gripper brush embedded with micro-spheres, providing each lash with effortless, upward bending definition and extreme volume. The mascara is said to have an easy to wash off formula that is smudge free and will last 16 hours.

The MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara has one of the most unique brushes I've ever seen. As you can see from the photo above, it is very narrow, meaning that you're really able to work it into the base of the lashes without worry that it'll interfere with your eyeshadow or the other lashes. It is more like a traditional brush in texture which I think really helps to separate the lashes and is great for really working product into the base of the lashes to build up volume and intensity.

One coat on the upper and lower lashes

As you can see from the photos above, the before and after MAC's Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara is great! The mascara provides a good amount amount of length, volume and natural separation to the upper lashes but it's not my go to mascara for the upper lashes. This mascara, however, is a stand out product on the lower lashes for me and it's now the only one I'll reach for. It makes my lower lashes black and provides length without making them look too spidery. It can also be built up with additional coats if teamed with a more dramatic eye look.

In terms of longevity, this is one of the only mascaras that doesn't transfer for me. Most mascaras transfer and bleed in my under eye area, regardless of what foundation/concealer/powder combination I have used, but this one doesn't. It stays all day long. It isn't completely waterproof, as proven by the fact that I am a total cry baby, but there's only little evidence of tears, rather than two black streams down the sides of my faces.

If you're looking for a good natural mascara or an amazing lower lash mascara, don't look further than MAC's Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara. It's only a little more pricey than some 'drugstore' mascaras, coming in at $33.00, but it's definitely worth the few extra dollars!

Have you tried the MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara? What did you think of it?
